Sidecar Presentation to CPUC

Sidecar is a ridesharing company that launched in San Francisco in 2012. Sunil Paul is currently the acting CEO of Sidecar, an entrepreneur who has invested in many startup companies and planned this on-demand type of ride service in the late 90's. Since the launch of Sidecar in the summer of 2012, this ridesharing company has delivered over a million rides to date.

Sunil Paul conceived his ridesharing startup idea in 1999, before the Dot Com bust in the Spring of 2000 wiped out virtual assets. According to Liz Gannes of All Things D (2012), Paul got approved for patents in the ridesharing space in 2002 and once an opportunity presented itself in the ridesharing spectrum, most notably a Michigan research study known as Shepherd Intelligent Systems, Sunil Paul jump onboard with his investment and relaunched this company as Sidecar.

Sidecar is the cheapest ridesharing service available in San Francisco. It's direct competitors are UberX and Lyft, which these two companies (Uber and Lyft) overlook Sidecar's vital role in the ridesharing industry. Sidecar expanded into 7 large transportation markets in the United States. Their plan is to expand these ridesharing services into additional cities, possibly doubling the 8 cities available right now. Sidecar is quietly taking strides, drafting behind the ridesharing leaders.

A Sidecar presentation to the California Public Utilities Commission is viewable in PDF on the CPUC California government website. Visit this link to better understand how Sidecar operates.
