Uber is unveiling a new driver app to use on personal phones

As Uber Partners may know, the last day for the $10 phone data subscription rebate is August 31, 2014. After this date, all Partners are required to pay $10 per week for the data plan/subscription. However, Uber just released a new Uber app that enables current Partners to access driver mode on their personal phones. This is an exciting update, especially because drivers don't have to use two phones to perform ride services.

Uber Partners who elect to keep using the Uber iPhone must pay a $10 per week fee. This amount is taken directly out of weekly deposits and will be itemized to reflect the $10 fee. If you don't own a phone that is approved for this new app, don't turn in your phone. Continue paying the $10 weekly fee to remain active on the Uber platform.

An important note to consider is that this new personal Uber app requires at least 2GB of data to operate per month. Make sure your data plan can accommodate this data so overage charges won't set you back.

Some drivers have not updated their iPhone's IOS 7 operating system yet, so without applying this update the personal Uber app won't work.

Current Uber Partners can visit the Fort Mason Center on Wednesday August 27, 2014 between the hours 3pm-6pm to exchange phones and get this new personal Uber driver app. Uber Partners unable to attend this date and time frames can visit the Uber Partner Center to exchange phones and get the Uber driver app between 9am-5pm.

Current phones permitted are Iphone 4s, 5, 5c, and 5s. iOS 7 operate system upgrade is required to launch this app. Most cellular services may accommodate this driver app (i.e. Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and others).

Finally, Uber is now making the transition to incorporate personal driver apps on their platform. Lyft and SideCar launched their ridesharing platforms on personal apps from the beginning. In this year alone, Uber has improved their platform to offer in-app navigation and inform clients to input destination addresses. The most significant change is the in-app navigation, as this update accelerated pickup times and possibly reduced cancellations due to taking extra time to input pick-up locations into GPS devices. Drivers find this in-app update a breeze.

UberX drivers can now use their personal phones to perform ridesharing services. 2GB of data per month is required to operate this app (check your data plan and be aware that overcharges can apply - make adjustments). Uber devices can be exchanged at the Fort Mason Center on Wednesday August 27, 2014 between 3-6pm. If drivers elect to keep using the Uber phone, a $10 data fee will be applied to accounts beginning on September 1, 2014. The $10 subscription rebate ends on August 31, 2014.

Happy Ridesharing!
