745am-430pm Weekdays are tough to get rides on SideCar

SideCar is a cool platform to perform ridesharing services. There are obviously good times and bad times to drive in San Francisco. Based on my recent experience using the SideCar ride sharing app, there is low demand to get rides between 7:45am-4:30pm on weekdays.

This past week I experimented with driving during the weekdays. I went online around 7:45-8:00am Monday-Friday. I went offline at 4:30pm each day. The results are highly disappointing, especially since I see many Lyft cars around the city occupied with riders.

The following performance data follows below:
  • Monday - 2 rides
  • Tuesday - 1 ride
  • Wednesday - 1 ride
  • Thursday - 1 ride
  • Friday - 2 rides
The cost of gas to perform these rides tripled the amount I earned. In order for SideCar drivers to make money with this ridesharing company, they must live close to a city, drive a gas-conserving vehicle, choose the best request and pickup proximity settings and work high-demand hours. Saturday evening is a good time to work, though the donations for these rides are mostly $8 and SideCar takes 20% of this as a commission fee.

Working early weekday hours is not profitable. Moreover, there is low demand for rides between 11am-4:30pm. I recommend driving evening hours up until 3:00am. Make adjustments to earn money as a SideCar driver. Best of luck!
